Help- I’m Sick and I Can’t Think!

Here’s the thing- when we get sick, sometimes we can’t think. Maybe we know all of the things to do, but when we’re sick, it just doesn’t make it easy to think about what to do 🙂

I have so many people around me who are sick right now, that I thought it would be a good time to post the things that I do at my house when we are sick. Reminder- I am not a doctor, I just play one on the internet….. Just kidding- this is not medical advice, simply one friend sharing with another the things that work for us 🙂

Some things I keep in mind when we’re sick or around sick people: Sugar shuts off your immune system. I know we crave sweets, but to me, it just isn’t worth it. Also, tylenol shuts down glutathione. For this reason, I avoid NSAIDs as much as possible, especially when sick. I don’t think one should be miserable, but we also have forgotten that a fever is our body’s defense and it’s actually good (albeit uncomfortable). Glutathione is the master antioxidant in our body that specifically fights off viruses. What helps glutathione? NAC supports glutathione production, Lime Essential Oil, even Lithium Orotate is in the glutathione cycle. If you have fever, you can use Ledum essential oil to bring that down. You can also use Peace and Calming Essential oil for body aches, and it works very very well.

Anytime I’m around sick people or when I start to feel a little off, I always do certain things. We know that 70% of our immune system is in our gut, so it is helpful to add in some probiotic support.

I also will supplement temporarily with Vitamin D, about 5000iu up to 2 times a day, Vitamin C in both the Ascorbic Acid Form and Whole Food form. I take the RDA 3 times a day in Vitamin C. I also sometimes add in Zinc for an immune boost as well. I’m a Young Living gal, so I also start adding in Thieves essential oil in all the diffusers and on the bottoms of our feet. Doterra has a similar blend.

*A note about essential oils and where to buy them*

Please do not buy them from the grocery, or even Amazon (without checking the history of the seller). Young Living and Doterra are both quite reputable as far as quality is concerned. You can also get them from Aromatics International. Revive has mixed reviews on quality along with other online retailers, so I just recommend you research. The requirements to call something an essential oil are just not even worth talking about, so definitely know your source, or you could be actually making things worse for yourself.

Additionally, I will usually pull in either Immuplex or Congaplex from Standard Process. This can be purchased at local Chiropractors, or from reputable people on Amazon. Be careful with Amazon, there are a lot of sneaky people who are not honest on there 😉

When we get sick with a stomach bug:

Alkalime from Young Living is hands down my favorite thing. It is magical. Seriously. Anytime I have any type of stomach upset, I immediately go take some Alkalime and it almost always nips it in the bud 🙂

Activated Charcoal is great for collecting all the toxins, viruses etc and shuttling them out the back end. It’s also good for helping to calm down diarrhea in some instances as well. I wouldn’t take activated charcoal if I was actively throwing up because it will stain and it is BLACK. Here’s a recipe for cookies that a friend of mine shared with Activated Charcoal in them: Baby Treats

For Sinus/Chest/ Congestion/ Flu like symptoms:

Absolutely Congaplex/Immuplex right away. I also add in Melia Supreme to ward off any secondary infections. For Congaplex/Immuplex/ Melia the dose I personally use is 1 tablet/capsule per 50 pounds of body weight every other waking hour. Check cautions on Melia before using, especially if you are pregnant or nursing. Probiotics, Vitamin C, Zinc, Quercetin, Vitamin D are also helpful. I use what I have and I try to have as much on hand at all times as possible.

Essential Oils for respiratory care:

Eucalyptus Globulus is best for nasal congestion, Eucalyptus Radiata is more for chest congestion, although they both work interchangeably. More than these, though, I love Laurus Nobulis. I put it everywhere when I have a congestion type illness.

I hope this helps you, and if you any suggestions, I’d love to hear them!
